These are especially exciting times
to be a Lion with our own Texas Jimmy Ross as International
President. "We Serve" and community service are at the heart of his
presidential program.
IP Jimmy has set the tone for 2006-2007 by calling for a paradigm
shift - looking at the same thing in a fresh way.
This Year of Lionism for District 2-S1 was officially kicked off
with the First Cabinet Meeting held in Nacogdoches, Saturday, July
29.
The Club Renewal Initiative was introduced in the training sessions.
During the Cabinet Meeting, the District voted to lead by example
adapting this powerful tool for District 2-S1 Renewal.
Lions in attendance could feel the paradigm shift. Those not in
attendance might have felt the ground tremble; heard the "paradigm
shifting!"
Did I say these are especially exciting times to be a Lion!
Bring a "pair-a-dimes" to the October Cabinet Meeting and get your
"two cents" worth in...
"Together, We Can Help More Lions Serve More People!"

Fred Renkema
Vice District Governor
It’s great to be a Lion and serving people who are less fortunate.
Our International President Jimmy Ross has outlined the Lions Club
Renewal Program for all clubs in Lions Clubs International. This is
where each club reviews their club practices and determines whether
they are: (1) Highly Successful, (2) Less Successful, or (3)
Unsuccessful. The club should determine what should continue to be
done or what is unsuccessful and should be changed or improved. This
should help strengthen your club in the things that are done.
This is a good way to attract new members into your clubs and help
retain those members that are about to drop. Let me know if you are
having problems in this area and we can get you some help through
the MERL Team.
I had the privilege of attending the VIP Days at the Texas Lions
Camp. This was my first visit, due to job conflicts, and I was
amazed at the energy that this place exhibits. The graduation
ceremony was so enthusiastic and emotional that there was not a
dry eye in the audience. |
The children were awesome and the counselors were so vibrant and
alive for each child there. Everyone must attend one of these
events to appreciate what our money does for these kids. I had an opportunity to tour the facility and see where our
donations to the Texas Lions Camp go. I toured the Bunkhouses,
Cafeteria, Swimming Pool, Fishing/Paddle Boat area and observed the
Horseback Riding area, the Wall Climb, the Put-Put area, the Soccer
Field, the Arts and Crafts area and then we were taken to
Inspiration Point. This was a very beautiful area of the camp. The
children have an opportunity to experience each and every one of
these places in the week that they are at camp. What a fantastic
place to be a kid!!
The Camp Director, Steven Mabry, explained to us about the
administrative operation of the camp. This was an inspiration in
itself.
I want to thank you for your support and help in learning about
Lionism in District 2-S1. |

You should have received your invoices for district, state and camp
dues. Most of the invoices were sent by email, I did have emails
rejected by 13 clubs some these may have been a result of error in
coping addresses and some clubs officers do not have their email
addresses listed.
If you did not receive invoices by the 15 of July, please contact
me.
You will receive two invoices, #1 District, district convention,
district state convention and state dues. District dues $3.00,
District convention $.375, State convention $.375 and State Dues
$3.75 per member listed on WMMR report dated June 15, 2006. (Your
club membership reported as May 30.)
#2: Texas Lion Camp Dues $9.00 per member. These funds can be from
project activities since the checks are made out to the camp which
is 503(c)3.
This will require two checks returned to the District Treasurer, we
must make our transfer to the Texas Lions prior to September 20.

Club
Renewal
One aspect of
International President Jimmy Ross' Program for 2006-2007 is "We
Serve"…through club renewal and development.
At the District 2-S1 Club Officers Training and Leadership
Development July 29, Region and Zone Chairs received the Club
Renewal Analysis Report form and were encouraged to promote Club
Renewal within their respective clubs.
The letter from IP Jimmy Ross concerning Club Renewal is
available on-line at
https://www3.lionsclubs.org/ClubRenewal/ClubRenewalWelcome.aspx
If you need a copy of the form as a working document for your
club, simply print the three pages.
After your club has used this powerful three-step process, you
can go back on-line, enter the club decisions, submit and print
a hard copy of the Club Renewal Analysis Report as a blueprint
for goal setting.
The form has been sent to clubs with e-mail contact and will
also be made available on the District website at
www.district2s1.org/resources.asp
As your District Governor, I am available to assist your club as
well as the Region and Zone Chairs. We are servant/leaders and
"Together, We Can Help More Lions Serve More People." |

Texas Lions
Camp Director Report
Lion Harold YostWe are close
the end of the camping session. The district has had an increase in
the number of camper. We had 23 campers on the bus for session V, we
also had 4 cancellations. During the award program for session V we
saw a camper sponsored by Lufkin Host Club named the “Outstanding male
Camper for Session V”. We have a total of 25 campers assigned to the
two diabetic camping sessions. (These are the only sessions filled to
capacity) During the VIP training session last week, we were informed
that we would match last year attendance numbers.
Most of the districts attending the VIP training reported that they
are having trouble convincing parents to allow their children camp.
Those district that use buses to transport camper also cited the
increasing cost of transportation. We were quoted $3800 for a 50
passenger bus, 2S2 (Houston) reported it cost them $9000 to run the
buses to three sessions. El Paso had 20 empty seats on their bus. Our
fuel cost for the bus and van was $1300 then we had meals and lodging.
The focus of the VIP training was on the information that we must get
to the clubs concerning the camps mission, funding and method on
donations. Less than one half of the $1,800,000 budget comes from dues
($18 per year) and 100% donations ($10 per members), the remainder of
these funds must come from donations to Century Club, Life
memberships, Memorials, Jack Wiech Fellowships and other forms of
donations. 76% of our clubs were 100% donors this year.
I wish to thank the members of the Nacogdoches Breakfast Club for
their help making the bus transportation work and their transporting
diabetic campers from other clubs. In person I wish to thank Lions
Charles Taver, Susan Oney and James Young for their help.
Start working on campers for next year.
